Final Evaluation:
This term we have been looking into 'advertising'. This has involved Marketing Campaigns, Movie posters, Parallax, AIDA and Album Covers.
What I have gathered from this topic is that It's allowed me to look into how to show off a new product. It's also shown me the amount of effort it would take in order to sell or advertise any product or film. I've gathered some new skills from this topic such as using Photoshop to make different illusions and also using the studio to create an advertisement of my own. I've really enjoyed researching into the advertising of any product because it's allowed to analysis how a product is advertised and what makes them such a unique product. I've also really enjoyed making the posters because It's allowed to show what I can do to make a poster strongly advertise a movie of a certain genre e.g. Horror.
However, I found myself to come across some challenges. I found the Photography tasks to be a bit challenging and I think that's mostly due to the fact that I'm more interested in the film side and so I find myself to admire this one less. One of our tasks was to create a Depth Of Field image but we couldn't find a lot of items around us to take a picture of. We were able to manage as we did find some things but it just took a while to do so. The task of shooting a product was also slightly challenging because after a while I started to run out of ways to shoot images of the same product without it looking the same as other peoples.
Overall, I found this to be a fun project. I really enjoyed creating the advert and making the posters as they're both were a lot of fun. This has even taught me how to advertise and product and exactly what the process is behind it.
16th to 19th January
This week we have been looking at how companies advertise their products. This involved looking into the John Lewis 2014 ad. We looked at A.I.D.A which is the advertising process for all companies. This then later led to us creating our own advert of a product of our choice. My group chose M&Ms and we went to the Studio room to then record our 15 second advert. I think I managed to complete this task successfully because I carefully followed the instruction to make sure my work was to my liking. On Wednesday afternoon we were given the task to create our very own album cover. This involved searching for unique shots and creating a scene that can fit a convincing cover. We worked in groups but took the photos individually. I was able to follow the task well but the only thing I struggled with was picking the name for the album. However. I was eventually able to pick a good name although I do feel as if I could've picked better. On the Thursday, we took multiple FOV shots. It was a challenge to find objects around the college that can be taken with a blurry background but I was able to manage.
23rd to 26th January
This week has involved looking into Marketing Campaigns. On Monday we were looking at what some of the most successful advertising campaigns were such as Apple, Coca - Cola or Nike. We then took a some marketing fails and analysed what it was about them which made it fail. On Tuesday, we were given the task to complete a sheet consisting of our chosen product and how it is advertised and particular themes we notice in those adverts. My chosen brand was M&Ms because all of their adverts contains characters named 'Spokescandies' and so I was curious to dive deeper into that. On Wednesday, Our task was to make 3 different movie posters of the genres Action, Comedy and Horror. Before then we had to analysis 3 different posters and analysis what about it we liked and what about it we would change. Later that day, we learnt how to use a camera as a way of taking pictures around the college. On Thursday we were given the theme 'College Life' and we had to take pictures using that theme. This was probably the most challenging for me as there weren't many things I could take a photo off that would really pull of that message.
